Neopets art is not srs bsns. No really, it's not. O_o

My friend Ames made a comment about an entry in the current Art Gallery, "The Waveriders." What she said was, "My goodness.. every once in a while there's a picture in the art gallery that's just... stunning to me. Have you seen the peophin wave riders one this week? So so so so pretty. I wish I had that kind of talent, lol."

And so me, being me, being the sort of person who used to obsessively enter the AG, had to go and see what she was talking about. And then critique it. O_o

"I think 'Waveriders' has some problems, to be quite honest, though it has that nice, sort of fantastical feel to it (and it reminds me of Lisa Frank stuff from when I was small? O_o). My main issue is that the composition is off. Your eyes don't travel over to the bottom left at ALL. That dark Peophin should be a different shade or something, because having such negative space in so prominent a position is not good. There's just some stuff that isn't quite right in the end. It's got a nice technical execution, but the artist needs to study composition more."

Boy, I sure sound like I know what I'm talking about, huh? O_o Good Lord, I'm randomly spouting critique to people who don't really care and where the artist will never see it anyway. O_o How useful.

Anyway, there was one I liked a lot, "Paper Boat." I had some stuff to say about it as well: "It has a lovely composition and a sort of whimsical vividness to it. I feel like I would love to be able to step into that drawing and play in the stream myself."

Whatever, self. Neopets art is not srs bsns. Remember that. (Though I suppose it's nice that the AG actually got a conversation going outside of the circle of people that usually care. Though I'm not sure it counts, as I used to be one of those people. Still, Ames never was. )
